Socially conscious consumers are increasingly seeking products that reflect their ethical values. Explore how these 5 brands embrace sustainability and social responsibility through their packaging designs, creating not only aesthetically appealing but also purpose-driven products that connect with conscious buyers.
More and more brands today are stepping up to voice their opinions on social issues and topics that impact our daily lives. These brands are often praised for their courage, positioning themselves as leaders driving positive societal change. By sharing their beliefs and showcasing their actions in support of important causes, they inspire both their audience and customers.
This week, we’re spotlighting brands that didn’t stop at a social media post or press release. Instead, they took meaningful action by incorporating their values directly into their packaging. This innovative approach ensures that every customer who purchases their products is reminded of the brand’s commitment to social consciousness and encouraged to adopt similar values in their own lives.
Bench’s Gender Neutral Body Spray
For Pride Month, Filipino body spray brand Bench made a bold statement by launching a line of gender-neutral body sprays. They selected eight of their most popular products and gave them a packaging makeover. Embracing a minimalist design, the brand opted for folding carton boxes with single-color prints. Each color represented a shade of the sexuality spectrum, paying homage to the iconic Pride rainbow.
To make the design more inclusive and relatable, the packaging featured words that expressed universal feelings and attributes, resonating with individuals from all walks of life. This thoughtful initiative celebrated diversity and equality while promoting inclusivity through their products.
Climate Change Chocolate
Bloomsberry & Co. partnered with Terrapass to create the Climate Change Chocolate Collection, a thoughtful initiative designed to raise awareness about reducing carbon footprints. Each folding carton box featured 15 actionable tips for consumers to lower their environmental impact, making the packaging both educational and engaging.
In addition, by paying a small premium for the chocolate bar, customers gained access to Terrapass’s carbon energy credits, directly supporting renewable energy projects. This collaboration beautifully combined indulgence with eco-consciousness, encouraging customers to take small steps toward a more sustainable future.
Because these boxes were composed of paper, they were environmentally friendly and ultimately better for both the customers and the environment.
Save Water Soaps
Why not inject some humor into your brand's socially conscious message? Kalastyle did just that with the packaging for their soap bars. Free laughs are included with these soap operas, which were designed to be presented as gifts.
To advocate for water conservation, these folding carton boxes prominently display the message in big bold letters, ensuring it captures attention immediately. Adding a touch of humor, the second bar features a witty piece of advice that's both memorable and engaging for buyers.
Beyond the eye-catching design, the packaging includes a practical list of 21 actionable ways to save water daily, inspiring consumers to incorporate small but meaningful habits into their routines. This creative approach effectively combines education, humor, and sustainability, leaving a lasting impression on customers.
Ben and Jerry’s BLM Packaging
Ben & Jerry’s infused their iconic ice cream jars with a powerful political message. They introduced the Pecan Resist flavor—cleverly playing on the phrase "we can resist"—to champion the idea of equality for all.
Through this campaign, the brand encouraged customers to actively support organizations advocating for change in crucial areas like climate action, LGBTQIA+ rights, Black Lives Matter, immigration reform, and more. By intertwining their product with a call to action, Ben & Jerry’s effectively used their packaging and platform to drive awareness and inspire activism among their consumers.
This is not Ben and Jerry’s first time using activism in their packaging. They have previously supported a variety of causes, such as Justice ReMIXED and empowerMINT.
Level Ground Trading’s Fair Trade Packaging
Level Ground Trading embraced kraft paper to create sustainable packaging for their edible products, staying true to their commitment to fair trade.
The packaging features simple yet meaningful designs, printed using eco-friendly ink, that symbolize cultivation and highlight the company's dedication to fair trade principles. "Trading fairly with farmers means we need to appreciate this hard work and the risk involved with raising and selling crops," the brand emphasizes. By aligning their packaging with their mission, Level Ground Trading not only promotes sustainability but also raises awareness about the importance of fair trade practices.
